About Umuziwabantu Municipality

The Umuziwabantu Municipality was established in terms of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996), the Municipality Demarcation Act (1998) and Section 12 of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act (1998).

The Municipality is demarcated into 10 wards and has 19 Councilors. Umuziwabantu forms part of the six Local Councils within the Ugu District Municipality with its sister municipalities being Ezinqoleni, Hibiscus Coast, Umzumbe, Vulamehlo, and Umdoni.

The Umuziwabantu Municipality is located on the Western Boundary of the Ugu District Municipality and shares its borders with the Eastern Cape. The extent of the Umuziwabantu Municipal area is 10 862 ha (1088 km²)

The Umuziwabantu is located along the National Route (N2), 80 kilometers from Port Shepstone and 60 kilometers to Kokstad. Connected to the N2 is R56 road which passes through Umzimkhulu; Ixobho and ultimately Pietermaritzburg.
