NCOP visits Umuziwabantu local municipality, 23 July 2015

The National Council of Provinces delegation descended to Umuziwabantu local municipality to conduct an oversight visit in order to discuss imperative issues pertaining to service delivery. The delegation led by Hon Lungelwa Zwane had a morning session at the Harding Town Hall where strong discussions pertaining to service delivery issues were tackled with the Umuziwabantu Mayor Dixie Nciki and her council together with the management of the municipality.

During her address, the Mayor gave an overview of the local municipality and also touched on the issues of provision of services within the municipality. She highlighted the issue of water shortage experienced by the municipal area where she mentioned that Umuziwabantu is the hardest hit area in the whole of Ugu District.

This was followed by a public meeting that was held at Vukuzakhe Hall in ward 4 where community members were given a platform to voice out their concerns. The community members raised different issues pertaining to safety, housing, improved infrastructure especially roads and the issue of drought in Umuziwabantu.

The members of the National Council of Provinces addressed all issues raised by the community and promised to take all concerns and recommendations and table it to parliament. This visit forms part of the provincial week where the delegates of the National Council of Provinces visit certain municipalities to examine the current state of local government in respect to its developmental mandate.
