Umuziwanbantu Municipality

Umuziwabantu Local Municipality has scooped a clean audit status for the financial year 2014-2015 following an audit that was conducted by the Auditor General. The main objective of the audit is to enable oversight, accountability and governance in the public sector through auditing, therefore building public confidence.

This achievement has been warmly welcomed by the management and all council members including opposition parties of the local municipality citing that it was a collective effort. The council members appreciated an extra effort that was put by everyone who was involved in the audit and emphasised that the municipality has been striving to receive this status since they came into power as the current council in 2011 but they have only managed to qualify for a clean audit this year.

When addressing the members of the council, the Mayor of Umuziwabantu, Cllr Dixie Nciki who is also the chairperson of Finance Committee at the municipality, expressed her greatest gratitude about the clean audit status saying that everyone must pat themselves at the back for this. “This achievement must be owned by all councillors and employees of Umuziwabantu Local Municipality but the municipality needs to ensure that they maintain this status from now onwards.”

The municipality was commended by the Auditor General for the best practices implemented in all key focus areas that were audited and it was also recommended to the Mayor, Municipal Manager and Senior Management that in order to sustain the clean audit outcome and continuous compliance there should be continuous monitoring of the compliance checklist to ensure that the municipality complies with relevant legislation and that risk assessments are performed regularly.
